Boosting Your Breast Volume

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of cosmetic surgeries performed. Not surprisingly, breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures available. Movies, sitcoms, and society in general have all promoted perfect breasts so widely that many women are ready to take the steps needed to boost their breasts.

Breast Augmentation and Implants

Breast augmentation is a breast-enhancement procedure done to increase the volume and projection of the breasts. This procedure is usually performed using prosthetic implants. Women opt for this treatment for multiple reasons, like increasing the size and projection of their breasts and making their breasts more symmetrical.

Breast implants come in different sizes and shapes. They consist of a silicone shell that is filled with a saline solution or silicone gel. The right implant type, shape, and size for you will depend on your personal preference and the look that you want to achieve.

Silicone implants are filled with a medical-grade gel that is known to give a more natural look and feel to the breasts as compared to the saline-filled ones. This especially holds true for women who have skinnier frames. Saline implants are another popular choice. If the saline implants develop a leak, the saline gets harmlessly absorbed by the body.

The Breast-Augmentation Procedure

This procedure is performed under local or general anesthesia. Dr. Kaye will make small incisions and create tissue pockets to hold the implants. The implants are inserted and correctly positioned, and then the incisions are sutured and bandaged. The entire procedure takes around one to two hours, and usually you are allowed to go home the same day.

Recovery varies from person to person, but you can expect a complete recovery in around six weeks. It is recommended to avoid physically strenuous activities during this period, including heavy exercise and sports. Taking at least one week off from work will be necessary.

A degree of swelling will be present in the area for a time, as will bruising. As healing takes place, these will ameliorate. Wearing supportive post-surgical bras will help to control swelling. It will be important to avoid bras with underwire, as this can damage the tissues of the breasts.

Typically, the results of a breast augmentation procedure last for up to ten years. Again, this varies from person to person. After this time, the breast implants must be removed and replaced with new implants.

As is the case with any cosmetic surgery, it is recommended to do some research and speak to people who have already gotten a breast augmentation. It is also important to go into this procedure with realistic expectations.
