Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Conveniently located to serve Clarksville, TN

Do you have heavy bags under your eyes? Are your eyelids droopy? If so, blepharoplasty may be the solution for your needs. Dr. Mitchell D. Kaye offers blepharoplasty as a potential treatment to achieve a firmer, more youthful appearance in your upper and lower eyelids. Before the procedure, our plastic surgeon and his staff will meet with you to discuss your expectations and goals, as well as any medical or pre-existing eye conditions that should be taken into consideration.

Why Undergo Eyelid Surgery?

If droopy eyelids prevent your eyes from fully opening or you’re experiencing lower-eyelid puffiness, you may want to consider eyelid surgery. The procedure can improve your appearance and even address obscured vision by removing extra tissue from your upper and lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty offers a more alert and youthful appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

Patients who have realistic goals for improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids are the best candidates for blepharoplasty. Good candidates have healthy facial tissue and muscles.

Non-smokers with no major medical conditions are ideal candidates for eyelid surgery. Patients with a positive attitude are also suitable candidates for blepharoplasty.

The Eyelid Surgery Consultation

Prior to your eyelid surgery, Dr. Kaye will inquire about previous surgeries and past or current illnesses such as glaucoma, allergies, dry eyes, diabetes, and thyroid disorders. The two of you will discuss any vitamins, prescriptions, or herbal supplements you are currently taking. It is also important to inform Dr. Kaye if you have a history of tobacco and alcohol usage.

You will need to have an honest discussion about your surgical goals with Dr. Kaye. He will test your tear production and measure and photograph portions of your eyelids. There will also be a vision examination.

The Eyelid Surgery Procedure

During the procedure, which is also called an eyelid lift or eyelid tuck, Dr. Mitchell D. Kaye removes the excess muscle, fat, and skin from both the upper and lower eyelids.

At the start of the surgery, tiny incisions are made in the creases of the upper eyelids. For lower eyelid surgery, incisions are made either right below the lower eyelid lashes or inside the lower eyelids.

Once the excess tissues have been removed and the remaining tissues have been tightened, fine sutures are used to close the incisions. Absorbable sutures, which do not need to be removed, are often utilized.

Blepharoplasty is typically completed in a single session of about one to two hours with sedation and local anesthesia. The patient is then discharged to home.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Recovery from blepharoplasty is fast. Thin bandages are normally applied to the incision sites and removed after a few days, and sutures are out within one week.

After eyelid surgery, bruising, and swelling are to be expected, but they can be reduced quickly with the use of cool compresses. Walking is a good example of a light activity that might assist the healing process.

Most patients are able to resume their normal daily activities within 7-10 days, and they can return to a rigorous exercise and workout schedule by the third week. The tighter, smoother eyelid appearance should be apparent by then as well.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?

The total cost of Eyelid Surgery surgery in Clarksville, TN is determined based on factors like your medical examinations, surgeon’s fee, hospital charges, post-surgery garments, and anesthesia. The exact techniques used will also impact cost, as will the total time needed to perform the surgery.
